Figure 17 — Winds and Temperatures Aloft Forecast · FAA-CT-8080-2H, p. 2-16

In Figure 17, the Denver (DEN) row lists "2532-08" in the 12,000-foot column. What is the forecast wind and temperature?

Why: A winds-and-temperatures-aloft group below 24,000 feet is coded as a two-digit direction in tens of degrees true, a two-digit speed in knots, then a signed two-digit temperature in Celsius — so 2532-08 decodes to 250° true at 32 knots with a temperature of -8°C, matching the direction-is-always-true convention the Remote Pilot Study Guide also states for TAF forecast winds.

  • Reads the forecast wind direction as magnetic; winds aloft forecasts, like TAF and METAR wind groups, are coded relative to true north, not magnetic.
  • Transposes the direction and speed digit pairs, turning 250°/32kt into 032°/25kt — a reversal error that produces an implausibly low 32° direction change from the station's other listed altitudes.
