Legend 1 — Sectional Aeronautical Chart · FAA-CT-8080-2H, p. 1-1

On a sectional chart, Prohibited and Restricted areas are depicted with —

Why: FAA-CT-8080-2H Legend 1's Airport Traffic Service and Airspace Information panel shows "Prohibited, Restricted, and Warning Areas; Canadian Advisory, Danger, and Restricted Areas" as a band of blue vertical hatching. The same panel uses magenta vertical hatching for an Alert Area or MOA, and blue diagonal hatching for a Special Airport Traffic Area.

  • Reads the hatch pattern but not its color: magenta vertical hatching marks an Alert Area or Military Operations Area (MOA) on this legend, not a Prohibited or Restricted area.
  • Reads the color but not the hatch direction: blue diagonal hatching marks a Special Airport Traffic Area under 14 CFR part 93, not a Prohibited or Restricted area.
