Figure 21 — Sectional Chart Excerpt · FAA-CT-8080-2H, p. 2-20

Figure 21 shows a route labeled "IR644-649" marked with an arrow. What kind of route is this?

Why: The FAA study guide explains that military training routes "are identified as IFR (IR), and VFR (VR), followed by a number"; "IR644-649" is therefore an IFR Military Training Route.

  • Swaps the route-type prefixes — "IR" denotes an IFR route, while "VR" denotes a VFR route, not the other way around.
  • Confuses a military training route with a civil Federal Airway; Federal Airways are shown as blue lines with a "V" airway number, not an "IR" route designator.
