Figure 12 — Aviation Routine Weather Reports (METAR) · FAA-CT-8080-2H, p. 2-12

Figure 12 shows: METAR KBOI 121854Z 13004KT 30SM SCT150 17/6 A3015. What do "17/6" and "A3015" represent?

Why: The Remote Pilot Study Guide's METAR field list gives temperature and dew point in degrees Celsius, separated by a slash, and the altimeter setting as a four-digit group preceded by "A" read as inches of mercury with an implied decimal point — so A3015 is 30.15" Hg.

  • Converts the Celsius temperature/dew point group to Fahrenheit and the altimeter group to millibars; METARs always report these in Celsius and inches of mercury, never Fahrenheit or millibars.
  • Misplaces the decimal point in both groups — 17/6 is 17°C and 6°C exactly as written, and A3015 is 30.15" Hg, not a 3,015-foot altitude reading.
